Lot Title:
1924-S PCGS MS-64.
Description:
Overall, strike quality is really outstanding for 1924-S, a Mercury dime issue that has proven elusive with sharp details, full-band coins being particularly scarce. Even without that designation, 1924-S is a top-ten semi-key to the series in MS-64, and population reports show that PCGS has graded merely 18 higher (and NGC 22 higher). Aficionados not willing to dole out a 400% premium for the designation would be well advised to consider a gleaming, brilliant near-gem coin like this. Though the technical grade is strictly correct, one can see that this coin likely had full bands when it left the dies, and merely an unfortunate bagmark has crossed the bands, precluding the designation.
