It is well known that the proof Barber coins dated 1902 and later are less often given cameo contrast than those produced in earlier years, and the present coin is no exception. What little contrast may exist is attenuated by the rather prodigious patina seen on both sides. Fortunately, the iridescence is highly attractive, with a vivid ring of cobalt encircling the obverse, and a flood of sea-green color washing over much of the reverse. Indeed, the reverse is probably the more attractive side, but overall, there is no doubting the gem assessment offered by NGC.
