Lot Title:
1867 NGC MS-65 Cameo.
Description:
Seldom would the word "stunning" apply to a coin barely the size of one's fingernail, yet this diminutive half-dime is just that -- an absolutely stunning and thoroughly marvelous gem proof. Deeply saturated on both sides in a profusion of rainbow colors, the obverse provides lush lime-green and molten-gold liquid-crystal color, while the reverse is thoroughly drenched in equal helpings of cobalt-blue, apple-green and violet-gold iridescence that intertwine in complex fashion. The effect is truly staggering! From a technical standpoint, mirror reflectivity is exquisitely deep on both sides, and the strike is exceedingly sharp, though not perfectly so. Conscientious description does not allow a cataloger to ignore detriments even for such spectacular eye candy, so the presence of a bisecting pinscratch across the obverse requires note. It starts at 10:00 and extends to 4:00, traversing Liberty's portrait.
