Lot Title:
1870 PCGS PF-65.
Description:
In the series of proof three-cent nickels, 1870 represents the third key among gem quality survivors, surpassed in scarcity only by the rare 1865 and the very difficult 1877. This is a nearly pristine gem example certified by PCGS, and it presents an interesting divergence in production quality and preservation. At least a couple of strike-throughs can be seen on the obverse, and there is some planchet abrasion on Liberty's cheek not entirely effaced by the strike, but the spotless quality of both sides is obvious, and album storage produced a subtle and highly attractive ring of bluish-gold accent around both sides.
