Lot Title:
1828 25/50C (B-3) PCGS VG-8.
Description:
A previous cleaning has become virtually impossible to recognize due to exceptionally dark patina that now layers both sides. As a result, this is a very low-contrast coin that requires strong illumination for proper inspection. Fortunately, the most important feature, which is the corrected denomination, is easily visible, and a few central details on Liberty's portrait can be seen as well. In addition, tool marks must be noted beneath the eagle's beak, though their origin is uncertain. Finally, myriad tiny white flecks of unknown substance are curiously scattered across the surfaces, but do not seem to present a problem.

Strong AU with rich album toning. There are a few scratches seen on the surfaces that might prevent eligibility for certification. Still a respectable example of a difficult type. |
