Lot Title:
1856-C XF.
Description:
It is not usual to find a high quality Charlotte gold coin uncertified (and collectors of a cynical bent might say "certified as well), yet at hand is a handsome 1856-C that poses quite an appealing view from any angle. Mustard-gold surfaces are pleasantly free of abrasions and successfully present boldly struck details without the inhibition of unsightly spots. Under optimal light, there merest morsels of mint luster persistently glint from between the obverse stars, though the reverse has less such fortune. A great coin, one worthy of a great bid.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Even though its ANACS label states: "AU 55 DETAILS CLEANED," this Charlotte Half Eagle issue is quite elusive, with most of its 28,457 production entering into commercial channels. A splendidly... |

Charlotte Mint gold has been red hot for a couple of years. There is no reason not to expect this trend to continue. This piece comes from the smallest Five Dollar mintage of the 1850s. A mere... |
