Lot Title:
|
1815/2 (O-101, R.2) VF.
|
Description:
|
CONSIGNOR: Guess I should have left this in the NGC holder. It was graded VF-35, still has a lot of detail. Took me a long time to fine one I really liked, because too many 1815s are ugly. CATALOGER: Ex-NGC VF-35, with hints of iridescence throughout, but mostly in the date area, although some horizontal abrading is seen in the same locale. Late die state is confirmed by the presence of a prominent die crack through the denomination. From the Forest Park Collection.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

An ancient cleaning subdues the correct field texture, and this coin lacks the proper amount of luster at the edges that one might expect of a bust half so near the XF grade level. An overall grade... |

Strong XF-like detail, but apparently recolored. There are no major marks worth mentioning, and the rims are relatively clean. If the 1815 over 12 slot in your set is missing, this example would be... |

An example from the single lowest mintage of this series, 47,150 pieces. Clash marks on the reverse are diagnostic, and the reverse is rotated CCW approximately 15 to 20 degrees. A small rim bruise... |
