Lot Title:
1787 Connecticut Copper. "Laughing Head" obverse. Miller 6.1-M, Rarity-1, 111.2 grains. XF-40.
Description:
Crisply struck and exceptionally well centered on a planchet that is above average quality for the type. Dentilation is evenly broad all the way around the obverse and most of the reverse, with some shallow definition along the lower right edge. As expected of a copper struck in proper alignment, the date and legends are all very bold. Mail and remaining hair and facial details are intricately delineated, right down to the individual strands in the hair ribbons and lines of the globe. Surface quality can hardly be improved upon as this coin displays nice medium-walnut sheen that is accented in the recessed areas by ebony-brown color.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
