Lot Title:
1873 (BG-874) quarter-dollar. PCGS MS-63.
Description:
An oversized but aesthetically passable Indian portrait occupies most of the obverse and crowds the date and stars. Many replica California gold "coins" are modeled after the motifs demonstrated by BG-874, which incidentally is an R.6 variety. This example is outstanding for the conservative PCGS grade of MS-63, and it is housed in a green label holder. Enchanting indigo-blue color gathers around the stars and all the reverse lettering, contrasted beautifully against a corn-gold backdrop.
