Lot Title:
1872 (BG-722 W H) quarter-dollar, PCGS MS-66.
Description:
Although not rare, BG-722 (R.4) has to be among the most popular issues in the fractional gold series, as the obverse portrait draws interest from collectors of Washingtoniana. Delicately prooflike character of this canary-gold example derives from heavily polished dies that show remnants of many concentric circular die lines decorating the portrait. The reverse die was polished in less consistent manner, but both sides possess reflectivity, rather than frosty luster.
