Lot Title:
1868 ANACS PF-62 Cameo.
Description:
ANACS has supplied a grade of just PF-62 CAM for this 1868 half-dollar, though the grade initially seems conservative by a couple of points. A lower level than the expected number of hairlines is found in the fields, but a peculiar area of crisscrossed hairline scratches appears just below the eagle's beak and most assuredly determined the grade. From the obverse, this is a lovely type coin! Cameo contrast is not strong, as implied by the designation, but the fields offer spectacular reflectivity. It is merely the limited frost on the devices that precludes a stronger cameo designation.
