(About The Images)
1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-14, BB-122, R,3). PCGS VF-30. 1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-14, BB-122, R,3). PCGS VF-30.
Lot Title: 1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-14, BB-122, R,3). PCGS VF-30.
Description: The surface aberration at 12:00 of the obverse is no cause for alarm, as there is definitely no evidence of a repaired plug. It is merely a natural lamination that has discolored due to improper alloy. This is actually quite a nice bust dollar, with good ashy-tan coloration and relatively untroubled surfaces. The single most conspicuous visual characteristic is a darkish streak that essentially bisects the reverse, probably caused by vintage storage. Circulation marks of the most trivial concern appear on both sides and affect the reverse rim, but are expected of the grade and can be disregarded for grading considerations.

631The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$2,100.00
1798 Point 9, 4 Lines, Wide Date (B-22, BB-104, R.4). NGC VF-35.
Without the aid of magnification, no faults appear obvious on either side, with delicate peach-magenta toning responsible for an attractive and reasonably original appearance. No rim ticks can be...
668The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,500.00
1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-23, BB-105, R.3). XF details/PVC/obverse...
8 in the date just touches the bust and rapidly narrows down attribution to Bolender's "wide date" variety B-23. Brash, bold details exhibited by this example are curiously stained in mossy green...
479The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$675.00
1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-24, BB-124, R-2). SEGS VG-8.
Despite heavy wear and merging of some details with the fields, the three file marks seen right of the date remain clear, and the feature for which this die-marriage is most familiar -- the blundered...
480The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,800.00
1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-21, BB-107, R-4). XF/environmental damage.
The lump above the date instantly narrows attribution down to three possible die-marriages, and counting out ten arrowheads on eight shafts confirms B-21, a rather scarce R.5 die-marriage for 1798. ...
481The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$2,900.00
1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-16, BB-110,R-6). ANACS AU details/cleaned.
Rarity of B-16 stems from the fact that the obverse die shattered early on, and most examples display breathtaking die crack structure around the left side of the date. This particular example, which...

1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-24, BB-124, R-2). PCGS XF-45.
Though limited in area to just the obverse periphery, the luster that glitters from between the stars shines in a pleasing array of yellow-gold and sea-green colors, and related ocean-blue and indigo...
542The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$650.00
1798 Point 9 Wide Date (B-23, BB-105, R.3). VG-8, rim damage.
The "8" in the date touches the bust, which narrows attribution down considerably, and the position of star 7 and the five berries on the reverse branch confirm B-23 (BB-105), an R3 die marriage....
543The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,750.00
1798 Pointed 9 Wide Date (B-14, BB-122, R.3). VF.
Variation in color or surface texture at the 12:00 or 6:00 position on any bust dollar must lead to careful inspection to determine whether the coin has been plugged, but in this case, some natural...

1798 B-22, BB-104, R-4, Point 9 Wide Date. VF-35.
Easily identified as one of the wide date varieties for this year. It has light gray surfaces enhanced by crimson tones and light blue hues. Devoid of unsightly marks or bruises, this handsome...
