Lot Title:
1873-CC "arrows." PCGS Genuine (AU details).
Description:
As soon as collectors began assembling sets of seated Liberty dimes by mint mark, the 1873-CC became an instant rarity, along with the related issues of 1871-CC, 1872-CC and 1874-CC. Peer into any fellow collector's album, and those are four spots likely to remain open. This coin is genuine, as prescribed by PCGS, but regrettably, a slightly porous planchet, and subsequent effort to clean and retone the coin have resulted in denial of a certified grade. Nonetheless, as any aficionado realizes, the majority of examples of 1873-CC in existence have some sort of problem, and a collector is wise to take what he can get when it becomes available. Details are not far from mint state, and the coin is actually not nearly as unattractive is the conservative description suggests.
