Lot Title:

Set Liberty Seated Half Dimes 1837 - 1873.
|
Description:
|
Use great care while reviewing this marvelous set of half-dimes, as the diminutive coins have a tendency to slip out of their slots and hide behind the paper facing each page. Your patience will be rewarded, though, as the delightful quality of the coins contained therein is revealed. This is a complete set of Seated Liberty half-dimes, dated from 1837 through 1873-S, although three of the coins are in slabs, including the 1846 (ANACS VG-8), 1866 (ANACS AU details, cleaned, net XF-40), and 1867 (SEGS AU-50 "album toned obverse"). Extraordinary patience in the assembly of this collection is evident, as the coins in this set are fairly well matched for appearance overall, but more importantly, virtually every single coin displays a fully readable LIBERTY, with the exceptions of the 1838-O, 1840 "drapery", and 1846. Obviously, with so many coins in better collector grades, it would be superfluous to mention the numerous highlights, but a few of your cataloger's favorite coins include: 1842-O (VF-20, lightly cleaned), 1844-O (VF-20), 1846 (noted), 1849-O (VF-20), 1853-O "no arrows" (VF-20, altered surface), 1863 (AU-55, polished), 1864 (AU-50, cleaned), 1865 (XF-40), 1866 (noted), and 1867 (noted). An admirable achievement of true collector quality is housed within the covers of this delightful album, awaiting discovery by the next owner.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
