Lot Title:
1807 Perfect Date, Small Fraction, 1838 and 1857 large-cents (attributed).
Description:
A trio of early coppers, two of them attributed. The 1807 S-271 is in an earlier die state without a comet, and has VF-30 details but also even microporosity, leading to an EAC grade of F-12. An 1838 N-1 has VF-25 details and a terrific planchet with no defects other than a few more than the usual surface marks from circulation, suggesting an EAC VF-20 grade. Finally, an unattributed 1857 large cent has VF-30 details and has been previously very lightly cleaned or oiled, with an EAC grade of VF-20. Three coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

The 1807 is struck with rotated dies that were nearly set to medallic alignment, perhaps at a 145 degree turn. Good nut brown devices are set nicely against slightly darker fields. The 1814 has... |
