(About The Images)
1799 Small Stars Obverse, Breen-6838, Taraszka-18, R-5. NGC AU-55. 1799 Small Stars Obverse, Breen-6838, Taraszka-18, R-5. NGC AU-55.
Lot Title: 1799 Small Stars Obverse, Breen-6838, Taraszka-18, R-5. NGC AU-55.
Description: Unusually nice, original surface quality produces excellent, wholesome eye appeal for this "small stars obverse" 1799 eagle. Antique gold color tints the fields, yielding to glimpses of yellow mint luster in the protected areas next to the lettering and devices, particularly the obverse stars. A lovely die crack nearly perforates the eighth star, extending from the rim all the way to the back of Liberty's cap, while a smaller crack connects TY in LIBERTY. In addition, a lengthy rim cud occupies the bottom of the obverse. The eye appeal is unimpaired by any significant issues, though the attentive collector may locate a shallow scrape on Liberty's cheek, and a couple of trivial old circulation hairlines. A loupe is necessary to find these defects. Contrary to the abundant supply of cleaned and otherwise processed early gold on the market, this is a coin that has retained simple, original quality since the day it was withdrawn from circulation. Delightful!
