(About The Images)
1886 PCGS PF-65. 1886 PCGS PF-65.
Lot Title: 1886 PCGS PF-65.
Description: It is fortunate that only proof three cent nickels were struck in 1886, since the present example bears an uncanny resemblance to a business strike. Strike quality is about average for the issue, but the dies were obviously well worn by the time this coin received its impressions, as the "6" in the date has degenerated to the point that it almost looks like an "8", and some die cracks are carefully concealed around the reverse perimeter.
Low Estimate: $450.00
High Estimate: $550.00
Lot Status: Bidding has been closed for this lot.

241The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$270.00
1886 NGC PROOF AU details/improperly cleaned.
Campania Estate. Evidence of "cleaning" can hardly be found on either side, as the entire coin displays simple, normal-looking ashy-grey patina. A loupe reveals perhaps a slight hint of glossiness...
375The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$475.00
1886 NGC PF-65.
Pristine, colorless and utterly brilliant with only minimal frost on the devices. One tiny spot appears on Liberty's cheek and perhaps a couple more can be located on the reverse with persistence.
533The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$625.00
1886 NGC PF-64, and an 1887 NGC PF-64 CAMEO.
French Connection Estate (conserved). Cameo effect for 1886 just misses the designation, while the 1887 certainly deserves the accolade received for pristine contrast. Both of these are gleaming,...
534The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,100.00
1886, 1888, and 1889, all NGC PF-65.
French Connection Estate. PF-65 is the grade assigned each, though the coins differ from each other in overall general appearance. First is 1886 with apricot-grey toning and scattered carbon...
481The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$330.00
1886 PF-62.
Realistically, the grade could very well improve beyond PF-62, if proper professional conservation can remove some old verdigris and surface residue that subdues what appears to be nicer proof...
482The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$675.00
1886 (P01a, plate coin) PCGS PF-65 (green label).
1886 P01a RPD-002, Plate coin. Excellent eye-appeal derives from the presence of delicate, subtle two-tone patina layering each side. The peripheral areas are endowed with light champagne-gold...
483The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$575.00
1886 NGC PF-66.
Classic pewter-gold patina layers the entire coin, uninterrupted by any stains or carbon spots on the obverse. A number of tiny flecks pepper the reverse. The fields shimmer with luster highly...
238The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$600.00
1886 and 1889 NGC PF-64.
Proof 1886 and 1889 three-cent nickels are offered in this lot with a like NGC grade of PF-64, but an unlike appearance between them. The 1886 exhibits a peach-grey countenance with substantial...
569The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$725.00
1886 ANACS PF-66.
It is fortunate that the 1886 three cent nickel is known as a proof-only issue, as this example has all the making of a business strike. Despite a little cameo contrast, cartwheel luster...

1886 PCGS PF-66.
This Proof-only date shows the knob of the "6" touching the upper part of the loop. Both the obverse and reverse depict variegated russet toning. A stunning visual allure is projected by the frosty...

1886 PCGS PF-66.
A subtle rose nuance copiously graces this satinlike Proof. The motifs of this Proof-only date are frosty. Minute toning speckles, detected with a strong glass, are widely scattered on this...
389The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$675.00
1886 PCGS PF-66.
This sparkling Proof-only issue projects a vibrant visual charm. Its mirrored fields emphasize the frosty aspect of its design motifs. A toning fleck or two are not significant. Subtle russet tones...

This notable longed for Proof-only issue has a whisper of golden toning gracing its reflective surfaces. There are no readily discernible flecks or ticks on this splendidly struck example.
