(About The Images)
1854-O Arrows, Huge O. PCGS VF-30. 1854-O Arrows, Huge O. PCGS VF-30.
Lot Title: 1854-O Arrows, Huge O. PCGS VF-30.
Description: Briggs catalogs this as 1-A - the only known dies. Walter Breen speculated that the grotesque appearance of the mint mark was the result of having been hand-engraved in New Orleans onto a working die that was shipped missing the mint mark. This example displays the usual network of die cracks that affects the reverse beneath the mint mark area. An emphatically attractive coin that appears even bolder than the grade suggests, as the exceptional contrast between fields and devices noticeably augments the details. A couple of minor circulation blemishes appear near Liberty's head.
