Lot Title:
1886 gold dollar, MS-64 "cameo prooflike"
Description:
As is the case with mirrored coins truly struck as proofs, prooflike coins with similarly reflective fields are always susceptible to even the slightest blemishes or hairlines, and such minor impairments tend to be greatly exaggerated. Such is the case here, though thois coin is clearly very near the preservation of a "gem". Although it is not uncommon for 1886 gold dollars to appear prooflike, the present coin has unusually deep contrast and obvious cameo. A very pleasing, original coin with no distracting blemishes and only a couple of trivial copper spots.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

This specimen's splendid velvetlike surfaces glisten with lustrous swirls that enhance its rich golden aspect. Some faint hairlines and reverse clash marks are noted on this impressively stuck type. |

Wow! This coin has the look of an MS-66 Prooflike. Fabulous mirrored fields and frosty cameo-like device. There are a few scattered nicks, but hardly distracting. They simply don't come much... |
