Lot Title:
1918/7-S Standing Liberty quarter, ANACS XF-40
Description:
A surprising amount of mint luster lurks beneath the crescent of dusky gold toning that occupies the upper half of the obverse. Tilted under a lamp, there is discernible cartwheel effect, and examination with a loupe discovers definite flow lines at the edges of the obverse, though not so much on the reverse. This is a strong, sharp coin for the grade overall, and it is possible that the seemingly conservative assessment takes into account a bit of weakness across the four digits in the date. A chip in the edge of the slab is noted, but it does not compromise the integrity of the encapsulation.
