Lot Title:
1918/7-D Buffalo nickel, VG-8 details, scratched
Description:
Not only is this overdated coin exquisitely original for the grade (VG-8), but the overdate feature itself is wonderfully bold, having been imparted by early use of the erroneous obverse die. From a normal viewing stance at hand's length, this appears to be a remarkable example of this extremely desirable mint error. The beautiful grey color and surface texture couldn't be improved upon. Closer examination is required to bring to light the only detrimental characteristics - a long, thin hairline scratch diagonally traversing the obverse through the main part of the Indian's braid, and a couple of trivial hairlines through the date. Detractions notwithstanding, many collectors would enjoy the opportunity to own such a coin.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1918/7-D Buffalo nickel, ANACS F-12
An ideal 2/3 horn on the buffalo's head confirms the pinpoint accuracy of the ANACS grade, and that is by no means a given for this issue! This is an exceptionally original coin, with just that... |
