Lot Title:
1787 (Miller M.33.29-Z.7 R.6) Connecticut copper, bust left Fine
Description:
134.3 grains. Strong "very fine" details show prominently throughout, with the date being fully on the flan and bold, as are the legends. Two oblong punches measuring about 2x3 millimeters each are distributed on the obverse, one near the exact center, and the other about two thirds of the way toward the right rim. There were applied powerfully enough to create prominently raised areas corresponding on the reverse, and our net grade takes this damage into account. Despite their blatant and sizeable nature, the overall appeal of this humble copper is surprisingly good, and considering the R.6 rarity, many collectors will be satisfied with the acquisition of this representative.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
