(About The Images)
1861 Coronet double-eagle EF-45 1861 Coronet double-eagle EF-45
Lot Title: 1861 Coronet double-eagle EF-45
Description: Despite our "wiped" disclaimer, there is a good chance this coin could qualify for certification. The hairlines are mild and inoffensive, and do little to inhibit the nice, original mint luster remaining on both side. Indeed, the reverse appears to be "about uncirculated". A decent Civil War representative.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $675.00
High Estimate: $850.00

1091The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$2,200.00
1861 NGC AU details/improperly cleaned.
Perhaps a bit too conservatively described as "improperly cleaned", the delicate hairlines are hardly out of the ordinary for an early double-eagle like this at the AU level. That being said, some...
924The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$3,900.00
1861 PCGS AU-50, 1868-S PCGS VF-35 (green label), and 1869-S VF-35...
A trio of circulated $20 Libs. The 1861 has a scrape around 11 o'clock, but is otherwise a respectable AU. The other two examples look like twins and have a dirty appearance. Three coin lot (Mark).
1144The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$4,500.00
1861 MS-62/light abrassions.
To a very great extent, this butter-smooth double-eagle has the characteristics of an incredibly high grade piece, with creamy surfaces that are amazingly free from marks or abrasions.... with one...
873The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,150.00
1861 XF.
1861 is a year that stands in American memory as the start of the Civil War, and a gold coin of that era is a fantastic memento to arguably the most meaningful conflict in our nation's history. This...
1226The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,400.00
1861 NGC AU-55.
Vintage surface quality still retains a lot of luster, more so on the reverse, which is the usual case for the type. Though moderately abraded, the effect of handling has produced no major marks or...
1035The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,650.00
1861 NGC AU-58.
Consistent citrus-gold completely dominates this Civil War twenty, glowing with the luminescence that only a precious metal coin can provide. Reasonably well struck, with abrading apparent in the...
1094The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$825.00
1861 NCS XF Details, Improperly Cleaned.
At times, it can be downright puzzling why coins with obvious issues get graded, while those with forgivable problems do not, but such is the roulette wheel of grading. This Civil War double-eagle is...
1095The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,650.00
1861 NGC AU-58.
Just meager friction separates this coin from an "uncirculated" assessment. Although 1861 is one of the more available early dates in the series, no double-eagle dated before 1873 can really be called...
1096The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$2,120.00
1861 NGC AU-58.
Moderate to substantial abrading of the obverse is counteracted by the retention of virtually all of this coin's original mint luster, and the reverse appears to be essentially mint state. Pale...
437The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$700.00
1861 ANACS NET AU-50 Cleaned.
This specimen manifests a yellow-orange aspect, and luster remains around the elements even though it has been subject to a light cleaning. Some scant contact marks are observed, and the design...
