(About The Images)
1803/2 Heraldic Eagle NGC AU-58. 1803/2 Heraldic Eagle NGC AU-58.
Lot Title: 1803/2 Heraldic Eagle NGC AU-58.
Description: Neils Franks Consignment. Both obverse dies used to strike half-eagles for 1803 were overdated, with the underdigit "2" easily seen for this example, in addition to a nice die crack that connects the bottom of all four digits. An additional edge die crack penetrates the reverse rim at 4:00. Examples of this series often suffer from prominent adjustment marks, but not so in this case, as the only indication of adjustment seems to be a handful of tiny lines hidden at the obverse rim between the first star and "18" of the date. That being said, such a close examination of does not allow for the delightful, quaint overall appearance offered here, as the surfaces appear to be much more original than the usual "improved" example. Lovely russet-gold patina drapes broad areas of each side, and considerable frosty mint luster emanates from the fields, especially on the reverse. (PCGS# 008084)

1080The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$3,000.00
1803/2 Heraldic Eagle. NGC XF details/improperly cleaned.
Surfaces are glossy and clearly not original, with hazy hairlines that dominate the field and ensure a complete lack of original luster. NGC states "XF details", but perhaps the sharpness is only in...
1143The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$4,500.00
1803/2 Heraldic Eagle. XF.
1803/2 is one of the most blatant overdates in the vast repertoire of early American coinage, probably on par with the 1817/3 capped bust half-dollar. One needn't have a loupe to detect the...

1803/2 BD-2 R.5 Heraldic Eagle. SEGS AU-55.
SEGS did not attribute the die marriage of BD-2, which can be ascertained by the broken right foot of "T" in LIBERTY and the gorgeous bisecting die crack on the reverse. 1803/2 is one of the most...
973The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$4,700.00
1803/2 Heraldic Eagle. MS-62 Obverse Scratches.
It kind of looks like this coin was in a horrible skateboarding accident and caught a little road rash. Other than the scratches, this coin is still pretty choice. It has bright color, a descent...
435The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$7,500.00
1803/2 Heraldic Eagle. SEGS MS-60.
This coin looks like it would grade MS-60 with any holder. The color is bright gold, and the details are full. It has the usual myriad of tiny marks that land a coin in a 60 holder, but is...
