(About The Images)
1901-S MS-60. 1901-S MS-60.
Lot Title: 1901-S MS-60.
Description: This is a magnificently struck Half Eagle with satiny, lustrous yellow-gold surfaces. Some light surface hairlines, in the right obverse field, are almost expunged by its radiance when viewed with the naked eye.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

975The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$1,600.00
1901/0-S (FS-301) NGC MS-64 CAC.
LES Set. Exquisite vintage dandelion-gold patina suffuses the surface and ensures impeccable eye-appeal for MS-64. A tiny planchet lamination can be found hidden across three curls above Liberty's...
1157The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$725.00
1901-S/S and 1901/0-S, both AU.
The mere intrinsic expense of collecting gold coinage may help explain why varieties get so much less interest than for other widely collected series, but there are some nicer varieties that become...
1158The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$400.00
1901-S PCGS MS-62.
Booming luster will get under your skin, like a bomb that's ready to blow. Look for definition that's got everything except for perhaps the finest details. Shoot to thrill, play to kill.
1159The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$575.00
1901-S PCGS MS-63.
"S/S" was not attributed, and this die-state shows some quite handsome die-cracks on the reverse. Indeed, even the obverse joins in the fun with a spindly connector between the first two stars.
1160The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$800.00
1901-S NGC MS-64.
"S/S" is not mentioned on the slab despite what appears to be a clear under-mintmark. A great coin for MS-64, both sides display consistent, attractive blush-gold patina.
946The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$475.00
1901-S PCGS MS-61.
Small die cracks have begun to assemble around UNITE on the reverse, indicating stress and strain for that die. Both sides exhibit only minimal pale luster for a mint-state grade.
947The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$575.00
1901-S NGC MS-63.
Nicely defined aside from a weak mintmark. Sparse hairlines occupy the obverse lower left field, but the balance of this side, along with the entire reverse, is relatively free from abrasions at...
904The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,250.00
1901-S PCGS MS-64.
Impeccable original quality is easily identified by some carbon patches on the reverse, none of them obtrusive. Strong details are as-expected for a 1901-S, with most of the stars almost fully...
905The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,900.00
1901-S NGC MS-65.
Strictly original surfaces bear out expectations of fine, satiny luster. Each side is draped in classic medium-gold patina, and a fine spray of tobacco-gold at the extreme lower right corner of the...
503The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,050.00
1901/0-S PCGS MS-63.
Ted Clark was a well-known numismatist in the 1960s and 70s, often called "Mr. Overdate" for his specialization in that field. He discovered the 1901/0-S half-eagle in 1973, and the variety has...
861The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$450.00
1901-S NGC MS-62.
Powerful details, opulent luster and fairly clean fields have all the making of a choice coin at arm's length. Under magnification, however, a couple of scrapes can be quickly found on Liberty's...
1072The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$425.00
1901-S NGC MS-62.
Just about every half-eagle dated 1898 or later is common up through lower uncirculated grades, and 1901-S is relegated to practically bullion status, even in MS-62. This is a decent enough example,...
1073The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$3,800.00
1901-S PCGS MS-65 CAC.
Surface quality is buttery smooth and essentially immaculate on the obverse, exceeding expectations of an MS-65 grade, while the reverse features perhaps a few more abrasions than typical. The appeal...
807The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$725.00
1901-S MS-62.
A lustrous and lightly abraded coin that displays evidence of minor doubling of design elements on the lower reverse.
794The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,500.00
1901-S PCGS MS-63 (OGH).
Properly designated as a common issue in the half-eagle series, this 1901-S is graded MS-63 in a PCGS rattler holder and seems to be upper end for the grade. Of note is a rather extensively developed...
1169The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$825.00
1901-S NGC MS-63.
A little pale, but lacking major marks, and only lightly abraded for the grade.
917The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,100.00
1901-S PCGS MS-64.
Shimmering with golden mint frost. The strike was good enough to impart nearly full details even to the peripheral stars.
1017The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,150.00
1901-S NGC MS-64.
Hints of semi-prooflike reflectivity enhance the pleasing effect of excellent mint luster.
934The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$675.00
1901-S and 1906-S Coronet half-eagles, certified by NGC
A dusting of bronze color tints the 1901-S coin which seems a bit nicer than the MS-61 grade assigned by NGC. The 1906-S is flashier at MS-62 and also seems a bit choice for the grade. Two coin lot.
1045The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$975.00
1901/00-S NGC MS-63.
Remnants of an earlier punched "0" is seen with a strong glass on either side of the numeral "1" of the date. This 20th century overdate was first reported in February, 1973. Its satiny surfaces...
1046The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$3,250.00
1901-S NGC MS-65.
At the turn of the century some 100 years ago, only fourteen percent of American homes could afford to have a modern bathtub. The average U.S. family found it necessary to expend 80 percent of its...
1061The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$3,700.00
1901-S MS-65++.
This branch mint Gem example gleams with an opulent yellow-gold aspect. Its intensely lustrous surfaces create a superlative visual cartwheel. There are a scant number of microscopic ticks seen, but...
381The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$350.00
1901-S NGC MS-62.
A magnificent orange-gold glow emanates from the silky surfaces of this San Francisco issue. Some minor ticks and faint hairlines seem to vanish from view due to the exuberant radiance of this...
1113The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$1,275.00
1901-S NGC MS-64.
This specimen's elegantly rich, lustrous, and velvet like surfaces are embellished with a glowing yellow-orange gold aspect. A minimal number of ticks and hairlines are noted for this needle sharp...
1114The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$2,700.00
1901-S NGC MS-65.
Rich yellow-gold hues copiously blanket the satin-like surfaces creating a delightful cartwheel-like effect. A few insignificant contact ticks are indicated on this boldly struck Half Eagle.
