(About The Images)
Pair of Sequential 1907 $5.00. XF. Pair of Sequential 1907 $5.00. XF.
Lot Title: Pair of Sequential 1907 $5.00. XF.
Description: Fr-91. A pair of choice XF+ Woodchopper notes that have been together for so long that every curvature of one note seems to replicate that of the other. Both are fully original, refreshing examples that are as crisp as they are appealing.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Price history for items of the same classification:
Lot #AuctionCurrent Bid or Hammer PriceDescription
17The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$390.00
1907 $5 Star PCGS F-15/small edge splits/stains.
Fr# 91 Star. A scarce woodchopper star note in "Fine apparent" grade according to PCGS, the note shows heavy wear and a small split at the top center. Light soiling is hardly unexpected of the grade...
18The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$370.00
1907 $5 PCBLIC error AU.
Fr# 91. A scarce 1907 woodchopper, this one shows the famous "PCBLIC" error on the back. The note appears fully UNC at first glance, but a fold at the bottom right corner bestows an AU evaluation.
19The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$390.00
1907 $5 PCGS AU-58.
Fr# 91. Hands-down, the appearance is that of a blazing CU, since any existing fold(s) cannot be seen "through the plastic" -- unless the extreme bottom right corner shows a tiny crease. Rather...
54The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$500.00
1907 $5 Star PCGS F-15.
Fr# 91 Star. Adorned with a well-recognized woodchopper vignette, this $5 also offers the famous "PCBLIC" engraving error on the back -- on a star note! Strictly original and reasonably affordable...
55The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$230.00
1907 $5 PCGS VF-35PPQ.
Fr# 91. PCGS notes the "PCBLIC" error on the back ("all debts pcblic and private"). A popular woodchopper variety and with XF aspirations.
32The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$390.00
1907 $5 PCGS AU-58.
Fr# 91. Separation from an UNC grade cannot amount to much for this attractive woodchopper. A pleasing, original Spellman-White note with no problems.
24The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$370.00
1907 $5.00 Star. PMG F-15.
Fr# 91 Star. Always popular as a woodchopper type, the star makes this a particularly desirable five. Though flattened by the PMG holder, this appears to be a strictly original note.
134The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$400.00
1907 $5.00. AU.
Fr# 91. At first glance, nicer than the AU grade assigned, but astute bidders will eventually locate a tiny edge tear at upper left. Exceptionally nice, red ink for the grade with razor sharp edges.
40The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$360.00
1907 $5.00. PMG AU-55.
Fr# 88. Beautiful, original and so close to CU, with trivial handling at top and bottom and a modest crease at the upper right corner.
41The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$675.00
1907 $5.00. CHCU.
Fr# 85. Great color and presentation for this beautiful, original Napier/McClung "five". Marvelous paper quality and embossing.
32The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$350.00
1907 $5.00. CGA CU-62.
Fr-91. Tight margins top and bottom undoubtedly limited the grade, but just barely, as MS-62 for all intents is a choice note. The Spellman-White signatures are needle shapr for this woodchopper and...
115The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$140.00
1907 $5.00. VF.
Fr-88. Very fine with no edge or corner damage.
104The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$1,075.00
Three 1907 $5.00. Two CU and an XF.
One Fr-84 and two Fr-91. The XF has been pressed (Fr-84), but the other two are nice CU examples that are borderline Choice and very fresh looking. The ink color couldn't be any better on all three.
98The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$400.00
1907 $5.00 Star. VF.
Fr-91*. Those looking for an original example of a Spellman/White star type will be pleased with this offering. The paper remains crisp for the grade, though there is a pinhole present to the...
99The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$350.00
1907 $5.00. AU.
Fr-90. Commendable example of a popular type. It is crisp, but pressed, with a vibrant red ink presence. Appears Unc. at first glance.
100The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$700.00
Pair of Sequential 1907 $5.00. AU.
Fr-90. Two choice AU notes that are sequentially numbered. They are so well matched that a minor russet fleck appears at the exact same spot on the bottom margin of each. Each is crisp, original,...
136The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$380.00
1907 $5.00. AU.
Fr-92. So bright and original looking that it appears Unc. Only when observed closely does one see a minor fold in the top left corner. Crisp paper and very appealing.
137The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$875.00
1907 $5.00. CGA GemCU-66.
Fr-84. The paper is about as bright, and the ink presence is about as rich looking, as you are likely to see with a Woodchopper. Calling this note a Gem is a no-brainer.
153The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$300.00
1907 $5.00. XF.
Fr-91. A pleasing Woodchopper note with the word "public" misspelled on the back. Bright, crisp, and showing lovely color.
154The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$330.00
1907 $5.00. AU.
Fr-91. An original type example that is bright and crisp, but has a tight bottom margin. Great color.
136The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$150.00
1907 $5.00. F+.
Fr-91. Many collectors and dealers will likely consider this note a VF because of the superior paper quality. However, a couple of light toning sports net it to only a Fine. Still, this is a mostly...
147The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$260.00
1907 $5.00. XF.
Fr-91. Perfectly original "Woodchopper" example that is a step beyond bright. The contrast between the blank areas and areas of print is dazzling. Some will likely believe this note deserves to be...
