Lot Title:
1873 Closed 3. AU-53 Details, Cleaned, PVC Residue .
Description:
The milky substance glazing the reverse appears to be mere PVC residue that can usually be safely removed without danger to the coin. Semi-reflective luster persists around the periphery of the obverse suggesting an About Uncirculated or better level of preservation. Although this coin has been very gently cleaned, some of the reflectivity is more a product of strike than of surface alteration. Disclaimers aside, the rarity of this coin is obvious.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
