Lot Title:
1837 B-2 Uncirculated Details, Artificially Toned.
Description:
Outrageous forest green color is liberally dispersed across 80 percent of the exposed surfaces, relieved in places only by a skittish confusion of rouge and royal blue toning fragments. The dizzying effect is more psychedelic than anything else. Because of the density of the contrived patina, it is not clear what issues were supposed to be suppressed by the toning, but based on moderate reflectivity, one might guess that the coin has been cleaned or delicately polished. What is certain is that the strike is exceptionally sharp, bordering on full details. A wild and crazy kind of coin.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1837 NGC AU-55.

Ronald Zink Early Type Collection. Truth be told, the technical quality seems to hover closer to AU-50+ given the subdued luster and modest wear seen throughout. That being said, outstanding... |
