Lot Title:
1909/8 AU-50 Details, Scratched Reverse.
Description:
Subtle luster resolutely beckons through a generally thick layer of original patination. An unknown person has inexpertly attempted with a sharp metal point to scratch away some reddish deposits from around the Eagle’s tail, an ill-advised procedure that is always doomed to numismatic failure. One additional scratch descending from the Eagle’s breast is merely incidental to circulation, however. The obverse is attractive and appears nearly Mint State, though Liberty’s right (observed) knee is unmistakably worn, confirming the grade.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

The Six-Oh-One Consignment. The 1909/8 seldom comes any better than this choice example that has managed to come down to us today, mostly unscathed. While a few tiny abrasions scatter about, not a... |
