Lot Title:
1873 Open 3 XF-40 and 1878-S XF-45
Description:
An “open 3” logotype is easily confirmed by the distance between the top and bottom balls of the digit “3” in the date of the 1873 half eagle. This is a solid and original coin with mustard gold color whose luster allows claims to an even higher grade. Accompanying is an 1878-S with even more luster and probably AU details, but a series of hairlines right of the fifth star, and a few additional stray hairlines across the reverse limit the grade. Two coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
