(About The Images)
1913-D Type 2. MS-63. 1913-D Type 2. MS-63.
Lot Title: 1913-D Type 2. MS-63.
Description: Although its S-mint counterpart gets most of the glory, Buffalo nickel collectors know that the 1913-D Type 2 Buffalo nickel is a very challenging issue that is far scarcer than the Type 1. The present example is from an old collection and is a purely wholesome, original coin with no problems. For a Type 2, the strike is actually better than expected, though not quite full enough to eradicate all the planchet abrasions that always seem to appear on the high points. Subtle luster glows beneath a wonderful grey patina. From the “Old Rock Hill” collection.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

281The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$250.00
1913-D Type 2. NGC MS-63.
Because 1913-S type-2 is such a difficult key, the Denver counterpart often gets relegated to secondary status, although it proves to be elusive in nicer mint-state grades. This NGC MS-63 offers...
401The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$450.00
1913-D Type 2. NGC MS-64.
Washburn, Arkansas Collection. Marvelous, true satiny surface texture retains every bit of original patina, as subtle ash-grey toning shows up under magnification. A small carbon spot rests right...

1913-D Type 2. NGC MS-64.
The San Francisco 1913 type-2 became entrenched as a key date in every grade long ago, but astute collectors know better than to ignore the Denver coin, especially in better grade. And this is an...

1913-D Type 2, 1914-D, and 1918-D. All three NGC XF details/improperly...
NGC's "improperly cleaned" disclaimer is virtually inscrutable as it is applied to this trio of more difficult buffalo nickels. All three coins display very similar iron-grey color and the patina...
315The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$425.00
1913-D Type 2 and 1914-D. XF.
The 1913-S possibly exceeds XF-40 slightly, while the 1914-D is possibly a touch below that grade due to a poor obverse strike, but both coins display a bold horn on the reverse and deeply original...
347The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$200.00
1913-D Type 2. AU-58.
This coin is so close to being an MS-60 that it almost hurts. It has rolling luster, a great strike, and no distractions. There is just the slightest bit of luster holding this coin back.

1913-D Type 2. MS-60+

1913-D Type 2. PCGS MS-63.
A lavish example of this "Five Cents in Recess" Variety 2. Its mattelike surfaces are enhanced by a blush of lilac iridescence. Devoid of unsightly marks and blemishes, and only a scant number of...

1913-D Type 2. MS-60.
