Lot Title:
Five Bust Half Dollars.
Description:
Although each member of this quintet has experienced the indignity of cleaning, these are nonetheless nicely detailed coins with plenty of potential. Dipping has overly brightened the 1831 O-109, but it otherwise grades XF-45. A little less overly bright is an 1834 O-116 that also has XF-45 detail. The first 1835 O-101 looks like a really nice original VF-30 from the obverse, but a central portion of the reverse has been wiped. Another 1835 O-101 has a great strike and AU-58 details, but some faint crisscrossing hairlines show up under glass. This is a nice coin. Finally, an 1837 reeded-edge coin is unnaturally prooflike due to excessive dipping that has stripped the AU-50 surfaces. Five coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
