(About The Images)
1892 ANACS MS-63 and 1893 ANACS MS-61. 1892 ANACS MS-63 and 1893 ANACS MS-61.
Lot Title: 1892 ANACS MS-63 and 1893 ANACS MS-61.
Description: With regard to appearance, there is scarcely any difference between these two Liberty nickels, despite the two points separating their respective grades. The case for the 1892 is understandable. Although extremely well struck (in fact, it appears to be 100% fully struck) and endowed with terrific cartwheel luster, there is a luster graze in front of Liberty’s lips that restrains the grade. The 1893 is a bit of a mystery, however. It is also skillfully struck (though not fully so) with a lot of luster throughout, but there are no singular blemishes that would seem to confine the grade all the way down to MS-61. Does a hairline on the cheek really knock the grade down four points from the Gem level? Regardless, both dates are tougher than price guides would imply and should augment many collectors’ sets. Two coin lot.
