Complete Set of Peace Silver Dollars. Mostly Uncs.
|
Description:
|
Considerable effort was put into matching up lustrous, white coins for this set, and overall, it faces up as a very choice BU collection. An “Intercept Shield” album houses the coins, which makes sense since the consignor clearly wanted to maintain an “original blast white” personality. The caliber of this achievement warrants careful description, so please read on with patience.
The key dates are estimated to grade at the following levels: 1921 MS-63, 1924-S MS-61, 1927 MS-64, 1927-D AU-58, 1927-S MS-60, 1928 MS-63, 1928-S MS-61, 1934 MS-64+, 1934-D MS-60, 1934-S AU-55+, and 1935-S MS-63. None of the coins in this album have been aggressively cleaned, although mild hairline patches can be seen on the 1927-S and 1934-D (hence our MS-60 grades). The important 1934-S appears as a lustrous, low-end “Unc.” coin at first glance, but careful examination reveals a touch of rub, and a few stray hairlines show up at certain lighting angles. An unusually dynamic strike is apparent on the 1921, and the high-relief detail is much above average for the issue, and the 1928 is a lovely, “Choice Unc.” piece. Finally, though their value levels don’t mandate individual grade descriptions, be assured that the balance of the 24 coins in this set complement the keys well, and none of them would grade below Uncirculated.
This is an accomplished set that will delight its new owner, and which requires no improvement. It may be enjoyed with great satisfaction for a long time as-is, or the new owner may further develop the stature of the collection with future upgrades.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
