(About The Images)
1925 Lexington Housed in Original Box. MS-64. 1925 Lexington Housed in Original Box. MS-64.
Lot Title: 1925 Lexington Housed in Original Box. MS-64.
Description: Public resolution number 43 was approved by the 68th Congress on January 14th, 1925, with verbiage confirming, “a commission for the participation of the United States in the observance of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, authorizing an appropriation to be utilized in connection with such observance, and for other purposes.” SEC 5 further stated that, “there shall be coined at the mints of the United States silver 50-cent pieces to the number of three hundred thousand, such 50-cent pieces to be of the standard troy weight, composition, diameter, device, and design as shall be fixed by the Director of the Mint, with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, which said 50-cent pieces shall be legal tender in any payment to the amount of their face value.” Originally, each coin was distributed in a small, custom-made pine-wood box, and over the years, numerous examples, including the lot offered here, have been imparted lovely sea-green toning by the pine tar in the wood. Our coin grades at least MS-64, and if you sniff it, you can actually detect the turpentine aroma that confirms the toning as purely original and not “applied.” A delightful and utterly charming slice of numismatic Americana that includes the coin along with its original box (itself well-preserved and in very fine condition).

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

382The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$220.00
1925 Lexington in original box MS-64.
Boatmen's Bank Consignment. A curly little reed mark just above IGWT doesn't seem to preclude at least an MS-64 grade. Perhaps more important to many collectors, the coin remains within its original...

1925 Lexington NGC MS-66.
Neils Franks Consignment. It's very easy to guess that this was taken directly from its original little pine box and placed for submission, as the silver-bronze patina is the classic "look" for that...
