1853 Doubled Die Reverse, Arrows & Rays. ANACS EF Details Net VF-35 Cleaned. 1853 Doubled Die Reverse, Arrows & Rays. ANACS EF Details Net VF-35 Cleaned.
Lot Title: 1853 Doubled Die Reverse, Arrows & Rays. ANACS EF Details Net VF-35 Cleaned.
Description: This is an example of a very elusive doubled die variety of this one year Liberty Seated half dollar type. It is listed in the Cherrypicker's Guide as FS-50-1853-801, new listing, formerly as FS-004.7. A rarity factor of 6 is assigned, indicating an estimated population of only 17 to 32 extant. ANACS has graded a mere 11 pieces with this variety attribution. Although the label states it had been subjected to an earlier cleaning, it has acquired a handsome pewter-gray aspect that is further enhanced by a deep gold. A few old scrapes are perceived in the vicinity of Liberty's left arm, and a die break is observed on the reverse through "OF". The design detailing is quite distinct at this grade level. It is surely destined as highly admired prize for the specialist fortunate enough to become its new owner!
