(About The Images)
1847 MS-62 Altered Surfaces. 1847 MS-62 Altered Surfaces.
Lot Title: 1847 MS-62 Altered Surfaces.
Description: This respectable type issue's surfaces appear quite enchanting to the unaided eye. However, on closer scrutiny, the surfaces appear to have been delicately impaired by being subjected to a mild dipping and a subsequent retoning. Splashes of violet and gold manifest a visual splendor. A light sprinkling of contact ticks are noted for this magnificently struck dollar.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

786The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$360.00
1847 XF details/cleaned.
Cleaning is fairly innocuous, leaving the surfaces just a little too white. Strangely, a greyish stain in the obverse right field remains. A small rim bump can be seen at 2:00 of the reverse.
680The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$280.00
1847 VF.
Tri-color patina features ivory-bronze fields, charcoal patina next to the devices, and powder-blue accents between those predominant hues - by all means an engaging color combination. Details are...
681The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$750.00
1847 ANACS AU-50.
Obverse details are particularly sharp, while the reverse endures minor softness, likely due to a well worn die. Virtually no cartwheel luster is visible despite the AU-50 grade provided by ANACS,...
682The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$675.00
1847 AU.
Considerable friction greys the fields, but enough luster remains, especially next to the devices, to suggest that some prooflike character was imparted by a pleasing strike. A smallish oblong patch...
547The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$425.00
1847 XF.
Although graded merely XF, each side features unexpected hints of cartwheel luster, hidden within the peripheral devices. Just modest wear appears on Liberty's knees and bust, and her left (observed)...
496The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$450.00
1847 XF/lightly cleaned.
Steely-grey with little remaining luster and even, moderate wear. Perhaps lightly cleaned, and definitely sharply detailed.
652The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$300.00
1847 XF-40+ Cleaned.
Despite being subjected to the injustice of a moderate cleaning, this coin has recovered sufficiently and offers a handsome type appearance. Pleasing silvery surfaces nonetheless display an array of...
