Lot Title:
1799 S-189 GD-6.
Description:
This 1799 Draped Bust Large Cent must be considered one of the highlights of our sale. As a rarity, a 1799 cent is scarcer than even the 1856 Flying Eagle, and of course, much rarer than the ubiquitous 1909-S VDB. For many avid copper collectors, it is the single most desirable of all United States cents. The example now offered was struck on a nice copper planchet, and despite considerable wear, offers charming, even chocolate brown coloration on both sides. Most S-189s are struck well at the top or bottom of the obverse, but not both, yet the present example clearly displays a sharp date and a sharp "LIBERTY." The reverse displays fully delineated details for the grade. Unmolested and problem free, this temptress is certain to mesmerize a collector with her irresistible appeal.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
