(About The Images)
1857 Large Date. PCGS MS-62 Brown. 1857 Large Date. PCGS MS-62 Brown.
Lot Title: 1857 Large Date. PCGS MS-62 Brown.
Description: This key-date cent is entombed in an older green label holder, and appears finer than the grade suggests. 1857 was the last year for large cent production, as the Flying Eagle Cent made its circulation debut the same year. The strike is slightly above average for the issue. The copper shows tinges of original mint red about the devices. The non-red portion is a nice light tan-brown color. Free of all but the most insignificant marks, this coin is destined for a new holder.
Low Estimate: $650.00
High Estimate: $850.00

294The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$340.00
1857 Large Date PCGS AU-55.
GOM Set. Surprisingly frosty in the fields, deep chocolate patina embraces an elegant touch of navy-blue on the highpoints, especially the obverse rim. Struck from worn dies, the tallest details...
295The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$425.00
1857 Large Date (N-1) NGC UNC details/improperly cleaned.
NGC's argument for "cleaning" doesn't seem very convincing at first glance, as this appears to be a generally brown UNC with traces of normal flame-red mint color lurking about the obverse. Modestly...
225The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$330.00
1857 Large Date (N-1). NGC MS-61.
For a commercial grade of MS-61, the quality seems surprisingly decent, with caramel-brown patina draping this coin in attractive manner. This cent is not fully struck, as can be seen by incomplete...
226The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$360.00
1857 Small Date (N-2). NGC MS-61.
A small patch of powdery carbon lies upon Liberty's cheek and might play into the MS-61(BN) grade, but the rest of the surface appears to be basically free from distraction. Struck rather...
356The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$550.00
1857 Large Date (N-1). PCGS MS-63BN.
Attribution of N-1 usually begins with identification of the misplaced digit in the denticles beneath "8" in the date, but for such a late die-state as this, the errant punch is scarcely identifiable...
230The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$450.00
1857 Small Date (N-4). ANACS MS-64 BRN.
Splendid for the MS-64 BN grade, since a dash of red color can still be seen adhering to Liberty's portrait, and streams of red persist around much of the reverse lettering. N-1 is common, with an...
283The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$425.00
Two 1857 Large Date. ICG AU-50 and ICG AU-53.
There are a few intrepid collectors who hoard 1857 large-cents, and here is an opportunity to add a pair of properly graded large-date examples to one's holdings. Both coins are brown in color, with...
284The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$475.00
1857 Large Date. AU/questionable color.
1857 is targeted by collectors for use as the final type coin in the large-cent series, and the date has seen hoarding from time to time (in fact, there are several small hoards off the market today)....
285The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$875.00
1857 Large Date. PCGS MS-64BN.
Details are pretty sharp everywhere, especially in the hair curls above the ear. Velvety mahogany-brown patina endows each side with a vintage appearance, tantalizing in protected places on the...
453The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$4,000.00
1857 Small Date (N-3, Low R-5). ANACS PF-62 BRN.
As a proof-only issue, the N-3 is easily identifiable by a thin threadlike curved die crack near the bottom of Liberty's neck, though the ANACS holder provides a misleading commercial grade of...
454The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,100.00
1857 Large Date. PCGS MS-65BN.
Mere traces of mint red cling to most all the devices, outlining the prominent details and yielding an interesting and attractively detailed appearance. Inspection under magnification leads to...
258The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$750.00
1857 Large Date. PCGS MS-62 BN OGH.
There is no clear indication as to why PCGS would supply only an MS-62 numerical assessment of this coin. Where grading standards really once that strict? Peeps of mint red adhere to the outer edges...
277The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$575.00
1857 Large Date. MS-64 RB.
Both sides exhibit an opulent luster with an exquisite red-orange aspect that dissolves into delicate brown nuances. Some toning flecks and contact ticks are perceived, but do not take away from its...
