Lot Title: 1819/8 O-102 XF-40, 1836 Lettered Edge XF-40, and 1837 JR-5 XF-details
Description: Thick and rather dark patination of the overdate coin (the so-called "large 9") will not appeal to every collector, but at certain angles under a strong lamp, colorful iridescence can be seen. Some ancient dirt has worked its way between some of the stars along the right obverse border, and the reverse is significantly better struck than the obverse. The 1836 grades XF-40 and displays classically original surfaces. Silvery highlights penetrate the charcoal patination at the high points, and occasional hints of mint luster can be seen on the reverse. The 1837 coin has likely been dipped at some point, yielding surfaces that have retoned with vague orange and green iridescence. A tiny dimple is seen directly in the center of Liberty's neck.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
