Lot Title:

Complete Set of Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909 VDB - 1948-S (Excluding 1922 Plain).
|
Description:
|
Turning up old collections and finding fresh coins that have not been on the market for decades is what it takes to be successful in the auction business. The present lot exemplifies our efforts. It is a complete collection of Lincoln Cents dated between 1909 and 1948 (the final slot in the album), though it does not include a slot for the 1922 “No P” coin. The coins are housed in a vintage Wayte Raymond album where they have been lovingly stored for many years. The age and considerable use that this album has experienced are plainly obvious, as it is in delicate condition, and must be handled with care. The consignor had to repair some of the pages with tape, and even so, the slides and pages are loose. But there is no better numismatic time capsule than a fresh, vintage collection in its original album. Every coin is here and well represented, and there are simply no coins with any problems at all. The 1909-S VDB grades a strong VF/XF, the 1914-D is a lovely F-12 coin, the 1909-S grades around Fine or so, and the 1931-S is a pretty, brown XF+ example. Many early dates display upgraded quality as well, and some of the later coins are UNC, including the 1943-P steel cent. Most any collector who appreciates vintage collections should enjoy at least previewing this album, and one of them will end up being lucky enough to own it.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
