Lot Title:
1911-D Weak D XF-40 Cleaned.
Description:
The pale yellow surfaces have undergone a mild cleaning. Although its mintmark is shallowly defined, it still can be viewed by an unaided eye. A stray mark or two is noted, as well as a faint scratch extending upwards from the tip of the Eagle's tail to the rim at 3 o'clock. The deign elements are well defined for its ascribed condition.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

The conclusive evidence that this is a 1911-D is the raised rim along the upper-right border of the obverse, but fortunately, the "D" mintmark is quite discernible with sharp eyes or a handy loupe. ... |

At certain viewing angles, the "D" mintmark sudden flashes into view, though doubters will find that the knifelike edge aligned at the northeast rim is also diagnostic and confirms attribution. A... |
