1894-S PCGS MS-61, 1897-S PCGS MS-64, and 1898-S NGC MS-63. 1894-S PCGS MS-61, 1897-S PCGS MS-64, and 1898-S NGC MS-63.
Lot Title: 1894-S PCGS MS-61, 1897-S PCGS MS-64, and 1898-S NGC MS-63.
Description: The 1894-S dollar transmits a splendid cartwheel. A few scuffs on Liberty's cheek are minimized by its visual vibrancy and by its admirable detailing. The 1897-S issue is amazingly white, minimally marked, velvety, and sharply struck. The 1898 specimen has lustrous white surfaces with a subtle iridescence. Liberty's cheek is nearly free of marks on this handsome example.

932The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$725.00
1894-S PCGS MS-62.
Checkered Collection. Off-white patina graces both sides. 1894-S falls within the "murderer's row" of tough issues in the 1891 - 1897 span of the series, but doesn't really seem to get its due as a...
933The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$750.00
1894-S NGC MS-62.
Surfaces flash with startlingly bright luster that would suggest an even higher grade, though 1894-S does tend to come nicely produced. Some planchet roller striations appear at the center of either...
934The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$750.00
1894-S NGC MS-62.
Fairly well struck overall, particularly on the reverse. Pleasing luster shimmers around the devices and brings the grade very close to full choice consideration, and eggshell-white surfaces will...
935The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$950.00
1894-S PCGS MS-63.
Checkered Collection. Stunning brilliance hints very gently at semi-prooflike eye-appeal, and upgrade consideration seems warranted at first glance. Stricter observation with the aid of a loupe does...
936The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,800.00
1894-S PCGS MS-64.
Checkered Collection. Beautiful and elusive, this 1894-S makes a scarce appearance at MS-64, especially since full gems cost three times as much. Amber-gold patina encroaches inward from the obverse...
937The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,450.00
1894-S NGC MS-64.
Kilo-Volt Kollection. Ravishing spokes of curving luster surge rapidly through the fields, inspiring outstanding eye-appeal and a very energetic appearance for the lucky viewer. Splashes of fairly...
851The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$475.00
1894-S PCGS AU-58.
Smithereen's Collection. Every bit of the original gleaming white luster announces this as an abraded UNC(ish) coin, though closer examination finds trivial rub at the ear, on Liberty's cheek and on...
934The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$825.00
1894-S NGC MS-62+.
There may really be no compelling reason not to simply put this into an MS-63 holder, as a couple of slightly prominent reed marks on the neck really don't detract much. Flaring silvery luster beams...
935The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$935.00
1894-S NGC MS-63.
Collectors who assemble date sets will almost always pick San Francisco to represent 1894 since the other two mints are considerably scarcer, especially at MS-63. Luckily, many examples like this...
728The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$575.00
1894-S F details/cleaned, 1895-S F details/old polish, and 1928 Peace...
1894-S is only mildly cleaned and actually looks passable, but 1895-S is somewhat more harshly surfaced, although details are just about VF. The 1928 Peace dollar isn't badly cleaned, but has...
795The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$3,900.00
1894-S PCGS MS-65.
1894-S is recognizable as a tougher silver dollar in any grade above AU, but at the "gem" level, the scarcity and value border on semi-key status. PCGS statistics show 124 graded MS-65, and only 11...
914The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$800.00
1894-S MS-62.
MS-62, or perhaps very slightly finer, with full mint luster that readily shimmers through splashes of champagne-bronze toning. A bit of softness over the ear is the result of a slightly weak strike,...
627The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$560.00
1894-S MS-60.
Dramatic luster blazes across each side in spite of mottled violet-gold toning that disperses into an erratic pattern on the right side of the obverse. A peculiar patchy white area can be seen at...
628The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$600.00
1894-S NGC MS-62.
A delicate layer of pastel-magenta patina has settled across each side, with the benefit of downplaying slightly the presence of a number of tiny abrasions that limit the grade. The NGC MS-62 grade...
644The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$625.00
1894-S PCGS MS-62.
Mintage of 1.2 million belies the well-known scarcity of the 1894-S in better grades, as it is an expensive coin at any uncirculated level. An average strike provides this example with respectable...
1008The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$3,800.00
1894-S PCGS MS-65.
An interesting pattern of cinnamon-rouge color has developed across each side, leaving about half of the underlying surface brilliance untoned. Extensive die polish across each side provides some...
800The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,300.00
1894-S PCGS MS-64.
Pure silver-white mint luster exudes brilliance and shimmering vitality, punctuated by a strike that is surprisingly nice for the issue. The 1894-S is fairly notorious for roller marks, and sure...
730The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$340.00
1894-S AU.
Bright, vibrant mint luster flows nearly unbroken through the fields, and animates this scarcer Morgan dollar with the appearance of a virtually mint state coin. However, prominent reed marks on...
731The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$875.00
1894-S PCGS MS-63.
Some weaker detail appears above Liberty's ear and correspondingly on the eagle's breast. Just a shade off of pure white, with typical, small chatter as expected of the grade.
736The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$775.00
1894-S Morgan dollar, PCGS MS-63
By comparison to similarly valued coins, the 1894-S Morgan seems to be an underrated issue, especially in nice mint-state grades. The present example is generally white with only rudimentary hints of...
836The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$290.00
1894-S AU-50.
An admirable circulated representative of a popular San Francisco issue. Its surfaces are virtually untoned and exhibit delicate hairlines on the obverse. The design motifs are rather well defined.
838The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$775.00
1894-S NGC MS-63.
Sparkling with a white brilliancy, this specimen's satiny surfaces radiate a vibrant cartwheel. The minimal number of observable ticks makes this boldly struck date aesthetically desirable.
839The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$625.00
1894-S MS-63.
An original rich violet hue covers most of the lustrous surfaces. The obverse marks are consistent with the MS-63 grade, but the reverse has an MS-65 look.
847The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$300.00
1894-S XF-45.
This is a totally original Morgan Dollar that has original mint luster. The obverse is mostly white, while the reverse is gunmetal gray.
848The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$800.00
1894-S MS-63+.
Original mint luster is dripping off highly reflective fields and super sharp devices. A hint of attractive russet toning adorns the peripheries of both the obverse and reverse of this better date...
911The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$775.00
1894-S NGC MS-63.
Violet hues along the right peripheries of the obverse and scattered about on the reverse. Full luster spins around the surfaces on both sides. It is fairly difficult to locate examples nicer than...
912The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$800.00
1894-S NGC MS-63.
A lustrous specimen with glistening surfaces. The design motifs are slightly frosted and rather well defined. This example is devoid of obtrusive marks or blemishes.
845The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$0.00
1894-S AU-53.
An original example with plenty of detail remaining. The surfaces appear to have once been prooflike, and still today have semi-prooflike fields.
846The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$360.00
1894-S AU-55.
A respectable circulated example of this popular San Francisco date. Possibly lightly cleaned at one time, this specimen exhibits a minuscule rim dent at 7:30 on the obverse. A subtle golden...
847The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$400.00
1894-S AU-58.
Russet hues with areas of blue covers most of the surfaces. Barely misses the MS-60 designation.
848The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$400.00
1894-S AU-58+.
Coins not as nice as this one have often been seen in MS-61 holders. It is steel gray in color with a bronze patina that is very pretty. Please take a look at this coin, it is well worth it.
849The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$1,250.00
1894-S PCGS MS-64.
Mostly blast white surfaces with light mottled toning seen in areas on the reverse. As an MS-64, most would consider it PQ. A nicer example would likely cost five times the money.
