Lot Title:
1800 Americai. B-19, BB-192, R-2. VF Details, Improperly Cleaned.
Description:
This variety depicts a standard close date arrangement. The die state perceived on this particular issue was formerly identified as B-19b. It is diagnostic by the crescent-shaped obverse die crack starting above star 5 and continuing along the tops of stars 6, 7, and "LIBE;" and by another reverse die crack above "U" traveling to the top upper serif of "N" then down through "I" to the left tip of the ribbon scroll. Also on this variety there is always a short spike in the obverse's field directly beneath the first star. This die variety designation depicts the later state of the break creating this readily recognizable blunder. Although attributed as being abusively cleaned, it retains a visual appeal from the attractive lavender hues, mainly observed on the obverse side. Some light to moderate scratches are detected beneath the toning on both the obverse and reverse sides. The design element features are above average for the grade level of this distinctive variety.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
