Lot Title:
1873 Closed 3. PCGS MS-65 RB.
Description:
Early in January, 1873 an order was issued by Mint Director Pollock to prepare a new "open 3" date numeral. The initial "closed 3" was being misconstrued for an "8." Aesthetically alluring, most would term this example a full Red. Its glistening surfaces are virtually exempt from blemishes. Just the barest tinges of iridescent sea green are perceived. An upper-end specimen within this designation. PCGS Population: 20, 1 finer (MS-66 RB).
