Lot Title:
1856 AU-50.
Description:
This slightly circulated specimen still retains luxuriant mint luster that is augmented by a delightful orange blush. Perhaps it was lightly dipped, but if so, it is not an impairment to its visual aspect. Minuscule ticks are randomly observed, with a few perceived on Liberty's profile. An admirably struck type representative.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1856 PCGS AU-55.

Luster seems too nice to be relegated to only AU-55, but the fields show some rub, and there definitely are some flat areas in Liberty's hair. A tiny scratch between STATES OF is evident under... |

1856 NGC AU-58.
The value of 1856 is scarcely distinguishable from that of all but the most common three-dollar gold issues, and it is most often used as a type coin. In particular, the present example, properly... |

1856 PCGS VF-35 OGH.
Housed in an old green-label PCGS holder, the grade of just VF-35 definitely seems too low for this lovely and original gold coin. There is certainly too much luster to allow for such a low... |
