(About The Images)
1808, S-279, R-1 and 1810/9, S-281, R-1. F-12 Corroded. 1808, S-279, R-1 and 1810/9, S-281, R-1. F-12 Corroded.
Lot Title: 1808, S-279, R-1 and 1810/9, S-281, R-1. F-12 Corroded.
Description: This rather evenly matched Classic Head pairing displays a dark brown-black aspect, the result of their pure copper composition. Each example's surfaces are glossy and, to some extent, porous. Despite their textural imperfections, the detailing is quite distinct for the assigned grade level.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $240.00
High Estimate: $300.00

225The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$950.00
1808 (S-177, Breen-1 (Die State IV), R.2) VF-30.
Quite decent from the standpoint of planchet stock, since so many Classic Head cents suffer infamously from corrosion and environmental effects. Walnut-brown surfaces appear to be a little "dry" and...
133The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$190.00
1808 VG details/corroded and 1813 VF details/corroded.
A pair of Classic Head large-cents, each displaying surface problems for which the type is notorious. Included are: 1808 F/lightly corroded, and 1813 (S-293) VF/moderately corroded. Two coin lot.
504The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$650.00
1808 (S-279, R-1) and 1809 (S-280, R-2).
Sharply struck XF-40 details supply the 1808 with plenty of bold presence for the copper collection, but the surfaces are uniformly granular and dark, leading to a net grade of EAC 10. Surprisingly,...
260The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$1,550.00
1808 XF+.
Classic Head Large cents are the toughest major type to find corrosion free, yet the offered cent has no corrosion at all. This cent was struck from fresh a obverse die, with supporting evidence...
