1840-O No Drapery and 1840-O Drapery. XF-40 Cleaned and XF-40 respectively.

Description:

This is a two coin minor variety offering from the New Orleans Branch Mint. The specimen showing Drapery from Liberty's elbow has approximately 1/8th the mintage of the No Drapery issue. The No Drapery piece has light gray surfaces with faint hairlines that indicates a light cleaning. The with Drapery example has a majestic mauve guise mingled with traces of light blue.

It is too bad that someone decided to monkey around with this coin. It has only two tiny ticks worth mentioning, and it is fully struck. Its color is a pleasing gunmetal gray. |
