Lot Title:
1871 J-1050. NGC PF-63.
Description:
This 1871 pattern five-cent (Judd-1050, Pollock-1184) is nickel in composition, has a plain edge, and is listed as Rarity-6. NGC Population: 11; 8 finer. The obverse's portrait is similar to that employed on the nickel three-cent piece. The right arm of the "V" on the reverse was inaccurately transposed with the left arm, so that the "V's" image seems a bit odd. The slightly hazy mirrored fields are graced by a blush of rose giving an heirloom aspect. When using a glass, a few ticks and microscopic flecks are observed. One insignificant toned speck is noted on the reverse, to the upper left of the wreath. A boldly struck and an aesthetically appealing example of the 14 -30 extant.
