(About The Images)
1854 off-center NGC XF-40. 1854 off-center NGC XF-40.
Lot Title: 1854 off-center NGC XF-40.
Description: Brock Megran Collection. The degree to which the obverse was struck off-center southeast was evidently not sufficient for NGC to identify this as a "mint error", but do we really know the tolerance acceptable to the mint in the 1850s? At any rate, the striking "deficiency" certainly adds interest to what might otherwise be a rather mundane olive-brown large-cent. (PCGS# 001904)
